Multiphase fluid mechanics and rheology, imaging (nuclear magnetic resonance imaging), micro and nanoencapsulation, biopolymer colloids, health and environmental applications.

Our research lies at the intersection of multiphase flow in complex geometries, imaging, and colloid science. We pursue insight into such flows experimentally through imaging, specifically, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI) and video microscopy in microfluidic systems, and development of novel particle tools that enable next-generation measurements and technologies. We aim to establish experimental benchmarks in complex geometry flows of concentrated suspensions for testing of model predictions. Another focus is to advance fundamental discoveries of multiphase fluid mechanics and colloid science toward health and environmental applications, including water and food purification, efficient manufacture of pharmaceuticals, and development of imaging contrast agents and “green” flocculants and dispersants.
