Active Mentoring of Student Scholarship and Career Development

CBE at Rutgers demonstrates a strong commitment to high
standards of excellence in teaching and instructional
technology. Graduate training and mentorship are deeply
nurtured and every effort is taken to promote student
visibility and career development, nationally as well as
locally. The success of these efforts is borne out by indices
such as the NRC report (1995) ranking educational
effectiveness of the CBE research program among the top
fifteen public research institutions in the U.S. Typically, our
graduate students present their research at various national
and international meetings, including annual meetings of the
American Chemical Society, the American Institute of
Chemical Engineers, the American Physical Society, the
Biomedical Engineering Society, the Controlled Release
Society, the Materials Research Society, and the Society of
Biomaterials, to mention a few. All our graduate students
actively take part in a seminar series within the department.
In addition, we have regular "coffee hours", and a calendar
of activities is made available to the graduate students every
week, alerting them to important events and deadlines. More
info on some of these aspects is provided below.
